エリン・オトゥール(サンフランシスコ近代美術館 写真部門アソシエイト・キュレーター)

2010年アリゾナ大学にて、1939年の近代美術館における写真部門の創設、写真が美術の文脈で論じられるようになった変遷に関する論文により、美術史の博士号を取得。現在はサンフランシスコ近代美術館(SFMOMA)写真部門のアソシエイト・キュレーターを務め、昨年はロサンゼルスに拠点を置く写真家 アンソニー・ヘルナンデスの回顧展を企画、開催している。2013年、写真家のレオ・ルビンファイン、ワシントンのナショナルギャラリーのキュレーターであるサラ・グリーノフと協同で企画したゲイリー・ウィノグランドの回顧展は、サンフランシスコ近代美術館をはじめ、メトロポリタン美術館(ニューヨーク)、ナショナルギャラリー(ワシントンD.C.)、ジュ・ド・ポーム国立美術館(パリ)、 マプフレ財団(マドリッド)を巡回している。
数多くの書籍へ寄稿も行っており『The Photographic Object, 1970 』(UCプレス、2016年)、『Janet Delaney: South of Market 』(MACK Books、2013年)、 『Garry Winogrand』(SFMOMA、2013年)、『Doug Rickard: A New American Picture 』(Walter Koenig Books、2012年)、『San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: 75 Years of Looking Forward』(SFMOMA、2010年)、『Brought to Light: Photography and the Invisible, 1840 to 1900 』(SFMOMA、2009年)、『Nancy Newhall: A Literacy of Images』(サンディエゴ写真美術館、2008年)等で執筆している。

Erin O’Toole (assistant curator of photography, SFMOMA)

Erin O’Toole is Associate Curator of Photography at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Most recently she organized a retrospective of the work of Los Angeles based photographer, Anthony Hernandez (2016). In 2013 she collaborated with Leo Rubinfien and Sarah Greenough on the retrospective exhibition Garry Winogrand, which traveled to the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Jeu de Paume in Paris and the MAPFRE Foundation in Madrid. She is a contributing author of The Photographic Object, 1970 (2016, UC Press), Janet Delaney: South of Market (2013, MACK Books), Garry Winogrand (2013, SFMOMA), Doug Rickard: A New American Picture (2012, Walter Koenig Books, Cologne), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: 75 Years of Looking Forward (2010, SFMOMA), Brought to Light: Photography and the Invisible, 1840 to 1900 (2009, SFMOMA), and Nancy Newhall: A Literacy of Images (2008, Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego). She holds a PhD in the history of art from the University of Arizona (2010). Her dissertation explores the founding of the photography department at the Museum of Modern Art in 1939, and the transformation of photography into a museum subject.
